I really liked this wine! Mocha, dark berries, cloves…a really excellent California Tempranillo!

B Wise 2005 Trios Proprietary Red

This wine is a wonderful blend from B Wise Vineyards, with fantastic candied plum and dark berry flavors, with an underlying core of anise and clove. It’s slightly perfumey, and should definitely be decanted at least two hours prior to drinking. Additional cellaring should only enhance the balance.

Recommended!

2007 Fattoria Rodano Poggialupi Toscana

This wine kicked some serious ass. The great earthy, vegetative quality that I love in Italians, but with a very nice backbone of mocha and dark cherry. For under $17, I highly recommend.

Get this while you can @ Westwood Liquors.

This super-tuscan for $14.99 is a killer deal. Great earthiness, bright fruit, soil, and vine.

It’s a very enjoyable entry-level Italian, with enough oomph to impress your burliest of New World drinkers. Recommended!

2005 Windhurst Reserve Merlot

This puppy is $19.99 @ Westwood Liquors and worth every penny! It’s mellow, confident, with nice flavors of cocoa, blueberry and medium tannins.

If this wine were a guy at a party, he would just sit in the corner wearing sunglasses, and not saying anything, but then at the end of the night he would take your girlfriend home.

Amavi Cellars 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

Man, I’ve been posting old reviews all day! I had such terrible taste; things have really changed.

For starters, I’m a cab man, now, but actually starting to move beyong it. I like my wines big for now, but without much fruit. I get off to words like blueberry, resin, pencil lead, cassis, tobacco, etc.

Each Sunday, I try to have a “special wine”, and tonight’s was a $27 wine from Central Market sporting a Wine Spectator score of 94.

Its an elegant, balanced wine. Nice flavors of soil, bakers chocolate, cassis, and pencil lead, with hints of cedar and spice box on the nose. Over time, notes of vanilla extract and licorice emerge…

I’d actually like to see a little more fruit, but its certainly an outstanding cab, if a little solemn.

2002 Wente Riva Ranch Reserve Chardonnay

I became single this weekend, my friends. It wasn’t easy, but she was just too clingy. No time for wine reviews. So, I hope you appreciate the sacrifice, dear readers, because I probably won’t be having sex for a while. To the wine…

I went with a great Chardonnay. Very toasty, with hints of oak & hazelnut. It lingers in the back pallette, with a dabble of apple. Good times….I’d prefer to be having sex, of course, but I’ll settle for an exceptional wine.

2002 Ramsay North Coast Pinot Noir

Wow! This was recommended as a Manager’s Pick at thinking man’s liquor store Twin Liquors. The first sip is stupendous. Chocolatey, BBQ’y, great lasting finish. For the price, this is unbelievable. It certainly beat my expectations. Like going to a gay bar, getting really drunk, and taking home what you think is a transvestite, but it turns out to be an actual woman! Wow, I can’t stop thinking about it.

(Editor’s note: The wine, not the transvestite)

Nice wine, especially for ten bucks. Very intense grapefruit. Nice, tart summery wine. Quaffable! Even when not chilled, its still great, cause its so tart. Delicious!

Brandy says, “The elixer of life, nurturing the dry ivy of my soul, in the hot days of June.”

Drink on, Brandy, drink on……

Navarro Malbec

Justin says: Wow! The muthahfuckin’ malbec. Sweet, earthy, round. No wonder the Spanish rarely get syphilis! This officially transitions me to what historians will call “The Red Period.”

Russ says: I love the flavor of velvet earth, if by velvet earth you mean a great goddamned Malbec. This is Malbec country—the wine the Iberians wish they could make. Give me a better $10 Malbec, and I’ll be a happy, surprised, slightly drunk man, and I’ll cheers to you.

Shelby says: A fine example of why I love Argentine wines. A delightful combination of sweet earthiness, neither too sweet nor too earthy, where I think of mushrooms or the fungus/moss that grows on the north side of tree trunks.
