I really liked this wine! Mocha, dark berries, cloves…a really excellent California Tempranillo!

You know, I did enjoy this wine, but found is a little flimsier than some of the other wines I’ve had from the same region. Some neat rose petal elements, with some nice velvety tannins and herbaceous jam. Definitely a nice blend. Will likely do better with some serious decanting and another couple years in the bottle.

Now I know that I drink a lot of cabs, and maybe I’m getting a little sick of them, but that doesn’t mean I want a weak-ass cab! I found this cab to be acidic, pasty, and generally unappealing. While there was some decent berry and some nice green pepper, I’ve been used to getting much better quality for my $20 investment.
For the money, I recommend the Fitch Cabernet at Westwood Liquors in Westlake.
So there.

This wine is a wonderful blend from B Wise Vineyards, with fantastic candied plum and dark berry flavors, with an underlying core of anise and clove. It’s slightly perfumey, and should definitely be decanted at least two hours prior to drinking. Additional cellaring should only enhance the balance.
Recommended!

This wine kicked some serious ass. The great earthy, vegetative quality that I love in Italians, but with a very nice backbone of mocha and dark cherry. For under $17, I highly recommend.
Get this while you can @ Westwood Liquors.

This super-tuscan for $14.99 is a killer deal. Great earthiness, bright fruit, soil, and vine.
It’s a very enjoyable entry-level Italian, with enough oomph to impress your burliest of New World drinkers. Recommended!

This French malbec added some very nice vine, green pepper, and acidity with bright fruits, stone and a floral nose. Tastier than one might expected from an imported $11 French Malbec.

This Bears game sucked.
Just like this wine.
There are some decent hints of black pepper and fruit, but the whole thing doesn’t fit very well. Flabby, wet, and generally asseous.

This wine marks the first of my Cinderella wine purchases. Most of the research I’ve done suggests this wine is still a few years from its peak, so I made sure to decant it for two hours before drinking.
The wine is mostly syrah, with mourvedre and bobal, as well. It’s wonderful, with strong elements of blackberry, blueberry, vanilla, and especially strong licorice and chewing tocacco. This wine is pretty awesome, and I’d expect it to age exquisitely…

I found this wine a little thin and tannic. I think, paired with a hard cheese or meaty pasta, it would have been pretty tasty, but tonight was a steak night, and steak nights are important to me.
Sorry Savanha, but you didn’t quite cut the mustard…
