Haiku Party

Posted on August 31, 2009 - Filed Under Recent Events | Leave a Comment

After a bit of a hiatus, Austin Winos held a “welcome back” party with a haiku theme.

Attendees were asked to bring their favorite “summer wine” with an accompanying haiku to describe it.

I tasted a lot of great wines (perhaps too many!). My favorites were a pair of 2006 wines: a Finca Malbec from Argentina and a Wallace Shiraz from Australia.

The winning haiku?

Held over my lips
A drop on your fingertips
Mmm, I smile. Red wine.

mrawr!

Introducing the new & improved Austin Winos!

We are Austin’s least pretentious, most laidback wine-themed social club. Many wine clubs like to hold really expensive dinner parties, explore fancy wines from 1976, and generally congratulate each other on how great they are. They have many names to describe themselves: oenophile, bacchanal, connoisseur…but I think one sums it up better than any other.

Douchebag.

So, it has always be my mission to create a fun, relaxed group for people who enjoy their wine by the bottle. I don’t care if you’re just getting started or drink the stuff for breakfast. At Austin Winos, you’ll meet a bunch of young, hip people who enjoy wine as much as you do, and get to take part in some pretty cool events.

Redesigning this site has kept me awake for the last week, but I’m pretty proud of it, and there should be a lot to do here. If you want to find out a little more about the group, check out the about section. You can also get an idea of our past and future events and find one that seems up your alley. Finally, we’ve amassed a pretty good collection of wine reviews and updates on the various vineyards and wine bars around Austin. Our goal is to be a one stop shop for all things wine-related in Austin.

We review new wines all the time, and tell you where to find the best wines and deals around, so follow us on Twitter to get the latest updates. Finally, be sure to sign up for our newsletter below. I’ll send out approximately one email a month announcing an event or party. While some events are open to the public, many are reserved for members only, so be sure to subscribe to our list so you don’t miss out.

Thanks for your interest in Austin Winos, and I look forward to meeting you at a future event.

Your wino buddy,

Justin
